Types of placements
Short term placements are often used by Local Authorities to determine the best way forward for a child or young person. They are also used when a child needs a specific length of time in care i.e. when a parent is ill.
These placements recognise that a child or young person is in place with carers who are committed to looking after him/her until he can return to birth family or move to independence.
Birth families or Foster Carers need to have a break from time to time, so the children go and stay with other Foster Carers. This may be a regular event or one off.
